The number most estheticians have never calculated
Most estheticians know roughly what they make in a month, however, we have found very few know what they actually keep. The money you profit is the number you should focus on because revenue alone does not tell you whether your business or career is financially sustainable.
Two estheticians can bring in the exact same monthly revenue and have completely difference financial realities depending on how their business operates and their services are structed.
Let’s look at an example:
One esthetician may be providing $100,000 annually in services and taking home $50,000 per year and another may be generalutung the same $100,000 in revenue while only bringing home $20,000 annually. What’s the difference?
This is the part of the industry nobody teachings at an individual level. Most estheticians price based on what nearby businesses charge, what feels “reasonable” to the consumer, what they are comfortable charging or what they think clients are willing to pay — without ever fully calculating. Your pricing should be based on your own product cost, supply usage, laundry expenses, room turnover time, taxes, software, licensing, insurance, rent, admin work, and most importantly… your own pay!
Over time, that disconnect creates burnout, trust us, we’ve been there!
Being fully booked does not automatically mean you are building a profitable career. In fact, some estheticians become trapped inside schedules that look successful from the outside but are financially exhausting.
This is why understanding your true profit per service is so important and building your business based on your own individual numbers is so crucial. We don’t want you to become overly focused on money or remove the heart from this industry. Financial clarity gives you options and allows you to build a sustainable schedule, price with confidence based on your numbers and goals, understand where your time is most valuable, identify which services support your business and make decisions from strategy instead of survival.
The estheticians who build long-term careers are not always the busiest. They are the ones who understand their numbers.
At The Esthetics Edit, this is one of the biggest gaps we see in the industry — talented estheticians with incredible technical skills but very little financial education around how their business actually functions. We are not a plug and play system - we are a fully customized plan. We don’t tell you what to do - we teach you, so you understand your own numbers.
That is exactly why we created:
Numbers That Make Sense
The Money Edit
The Scale Edit
